About Stone
Stonelove stone sculpture is sculpted from real marble or sandstone and is not moulded or reconstitued.
Marble is a hard, metaphorphic rock, formed by the metamorphism of limestone over millions of years. It is mostly composed of calcite, a crystalline form of limestone. The colour and patterns of the marble are due to mineral impurities present in the limestone before metamorphism. If no impurities are present in the limestone, a pure white marble will be formed. Stonelove stock more than ten types of marble, that can be polished to a high gloss shine or a natural matt finish. One cubic metre of marble weighs 2600 Kg.
Sandstone is a sedimentary rock, formed by the compacting and cementing together of sand underground. This process takes millions of years to eventually create sandstone. The colour of the sandstone depends on the cementing agent. Stonelove stock brown, grey and green sandstone. The grey sandstone is the finest and densest type, making it better suited for carving intricate details than the brown or green sandstone. One cubic metre of grey sandstone weighs 2900 Kg. |
