Sculpture Process - how a stone masterpiece is created from a single block of stone.

 

Stonelove sculptors are masters in the art of custom stone sculpture. The process of the creation of a sculpture requires many steps, usually involving numerous workers. The statue is carefully and technically planned and carved. There can be no errors when carving stone. From the intricate carving of the master carver to the tedious job of hand polishing the stone, every step is vital to produce a masterpiece in stone. The rough shape of the Cupid and Psyche is carved into the huge block of white marble.

 

The marble is laid horizontally to allow carvers to access to sculpt to all areas.

 

The sculpture becomes more and more realistic as the stone is chiselled away.

 

Extreme care is taken as details are carved in, mistakes cannot be rectified.

The lower region of the marble sculpture is decorated in finely carved flowers.

 

The sculpture is nearly complete except for intricate details to be carved and polishing.

 

Extreme care is taken carving the face, as this is the most important feature.

  • It is carved from one massive solid block of marble.
  • The Buddha took 4 months to complete with up to 10 sculptors carving the enormous block of marble at any one time.
